My name is Chris. Today I have finally decided to tell you this story. You all probably used to play in a treehouse or a fort when you were a kid. Little did I know that one day I would find something that would turn the lives of everyone I love upside down, in my treehouse. My parents have always been very decent people, so the purpose of their life was to raise worthy and well-mannered children. Sadly for them, it didn't work with me. I have always been a wild child. I was neither a good student nor a right-minded young man. Unlike my older sister Molly. She would do everything to please our mom and dad. Her reputation at school was spotless. Looks and smarts! But everybody's got a skeleton in their closet. This all happened when my sister was in her last year of school. It was such a big moment for our family – so many plans and expectations. My sister seemed to be really happy and excited, but I saw that there was something wrong with her. First , I noticed that she stopped eating in the mornings and even mom's pancakes, which were her favorite, could not tempt her to eat a bite. She looked tired and exhausted all the time. When I asked her what was going on, she told me she was studying hard day and night to try to get into college. And I found that answer to be reasonable and comforting, but there was still something else. One night, I heard her talking with her boyfriend Tim. And as far as I could hear, it was not a pleasant conversation. And for the record, I was the only person who knew my sister actually had a boyfriend. This secret was shared with me in the strictest confidence from our parents. When I asked her what had happened, she just said: ""He is not my type."" Not her type? They've been madly in love with each other for such a long time! I just didn't get it! But then it got worse. Molly became so irritable and any little thing would just set her off. We didn't go for walks or watch movies at night anymore, though we have always been really honest and close to each other. Now she would rather spend her time in bed with a huge plate of sandwiches. It looked like my sister had gotten depressed. Really depressed. I was totally convinced that Tim was to blame. Did he offend her or treat her badly? Whatever happened between those two, I had to figure it all out. I got in touch with Tim and he agreed to meet me. To my surprise I found him lost and heartbroken. He had no idea why Molly had booted him all of a sudden and he hoped I was going to give him some kind of an explanation. So I was left with the suspense killing me even more. Then one day my sister came up to me and said: "We have to talk." First we were walking silently, but then she asked: "Do you remember the treehouse we used to play in when we were little? I wonder if it's still there." Of course, I remembered. We easily found it and got inside. It was still the same. We had a lot of happy memories in that place. I was so happy to see my sister smiling again, when she suddenly said: "I'm not going to go to college, Chris. Don't tell mom and dad. And please don't be sad when I leave." These words just left me completely speechless. What on Earth could force my sister to make that decision?! Why and where did she want to go? No matter how I tried to get the truth out of her she refused to tell me. Molly's words tortured me all night, and it didn't take her long to turn them into reality. The next day she didn't come back from school on time. When my mom called her, we heard the phone ring from her room. We went upstairs to see that her room was a complete mess. The closet was almost empty and my sister's phone was sitting on the night stand and ringing. Our father called Molly's teacher and it turned out that she hadn't even been to school that day. My parents were absolutely shocked and discouraged. They immediately asked me if I knew anything about it. I couldn't bottle it up inside myself anymore and told them the whole story right away. Mom almost fainted. She never had the slightest idea that anything was wrong with her little girl. She wanted to call the police at once, but my dad was more reasonable. He didn't want to spoil my sister's reputation, so we decided to start looking for her ourselves first. I called Tim and all of Molly's friends, but nobody knew where she was. Mom was on the phone all day long and dad was driving around the neighborhood. It was already getting dark, but Molly never showed up. I was in despair. The thought that I would never see my sister again was killing me. So I was just wandering around when I found myself not far from our treehouse. When I was 17, I started dating Paul. He was 18, he was a great guy, and I liked him very much. It was always so much fun hanging out with him and after a short time, I thought I already loved him. There was only one problem. My Mom. She is a very beautiful woman and looks 10 or 20 years younger than she is. So at first everything was great with Paul, but then I introduced him to my Mother. And he... looked at her really weirdly. I felt like he saw my Mom as a more beautiful version of me. For the entire evening Paul was chatting and laughing with my Mom, and she was just enjoying his company. I kinda felt left out of the conversation. They didn’t even look at me! After this Paul mentioned how awesome my Mom was several times. And I started to get paranoid - does my boyfriend really like my MOM? Could this be real? I decided to forget about it, after all, Paul was a nice guy and maybe he just genuinely wanted my Mom to like him for my sake. But EVERY TIME they met, stuff like this happened again. They would talk for a long time, and when I hinted that maybe it was time for us to go and do something without mom, Paul was completely oblivious to it. One time, we had planned to watch a movie one evening at home and Paul decided to invite my Mom to watch it with us. So I was sitting there, watching them talking and laughing, stuffing my face with popcorn. After this, I decided to keep them away from each other. I tried to go out with Paul as much as possible, and if he asked about going to my place, I would always come up with an excuse - like I didn’t want to go, or there was something cool happening in the city. One time I even said that my Mom was sick, and Paul was like “oh, is she alright? Maybe we should buy something for her, maybe she needs some medicine? Every time something like this happened, I wanted to talk with him about it, but HOW could I talk about a topic like this? “Hey, boyfriend, are you, by any chance, in love with my mother?” After a while he stopped talking about her and I thought that was it. But then my Mom “pleasantly” surprised me - she bought us all tickets to another city for a few days. She explained that they were really cheap and she didn’t want to lose this opportunity. All the way there, Paul and Mom started talking again and I tried to convince myself that it was fine, after all, I was also a part of the conversation. When we arrived it was awesome - we were staying in an awesome hotel and our sightseeing tour was amazing. I even had some time to spend alone with Paul when my Mom went to see her friend for a few hours. We ate some ice cream and took a romantic walk in the park, and by that point, I had stopped worrying completely. I thought that, yes, I WAS just paranoid. But this didn't last, and I finally realized that I was right all along. I was so tired this one evening, so I ended up sleeping for like 10 or 11 hours. When I woke up, there was no trace of Paul or my Mom! I looked around everywhere, trying to find either of them - I thought that they might even be in the hotel cafeteria, but no. I called Paul and he didn’t answer. Then I called my Mom and asked where they were. Mom said “Oh, we decided to not interrupt your sleep and we went into the city by ourselves! We'll be back in an hour and then you can join us.” WHAT!? I was boiling with anger, especially because it was such a weird situation to be in. I was in a very bad mood for the remainder of our trip and I didn’t talk much. Paul and Mom were asking me if I felt sick or if something had happened, but I said no. When they planned to go into the city again, I said that I didn’t want to go and that I'd rather just rest in the hotel. I hoped that Paul, or at least my mom, would realize what was happening, but they were happy to leave without me. After we got back, I finally decided to get everything straight. One evening, when Paul and I were hanging out, I finally found the courage to ask him about it in a very straightforward manner - “Paul, do you like my Mom?” He was like “What do you mean?” and I just stared at him, because he knew exactly what I meant. He was scratching his neck and looking in other directions, like he was very uncomfortable about this conversation. After a while he said, “No, of course not, she’s your mom, I’m just trying to be nice.” I explained how uncomfortable and weird I felt every time he would pay so much attention to her and not to me, and he apologized, so I decided to give him another chance. ★ DO YOU WANT TO GET YOUR STORY ANIMATED? SEND IT TO [email protected] IT WILL BE GIVEN A VOICE OVER BY A PROFESSIONAL ACTOR AND AN ANIMATOR WILL MAKE A VIDEO OUT OF IT! ★ Subscribe ACTUALLY HAPPENED https://bit.ly/2J5HP7j Hi! Are you ready to hear a shocking story? Well, I'm about to tell you one. Although, you might just simply laugh at me when I finish… So, my name is Maxine, I'm seventeen, and I'm going to the college in my hometown after graduation: no need to move far away from home, furthermore, my father is a professor there. My father plays a very important part in my story. And I love him very much, regardless of everything that happened. That’s why I want you to get to know him better. He is a handsome man in his early forties. With an excellent sense of humor and a very sweet disposition. Five years ago he and my mother got divorced. More often, children stay with their mother after their parents split, but not in my case. My mother had a serious problem with alcohol, which started almost right after I was born. My father tried to fight her habit for more than ten years… for my sake, I guess. But when I grew up I told him that it would probably be better if we lived together, just the two of us. The rest was simple. So it goes. Many people think that divorce is something bad. I don’t know. I watched it all happen and it seemed to me that my father was breathing freely for the first time in my life! Of course, a couple of years later his friends and I started to jokingly tease him that he needed to find a girlfriend. But he would just smile and laugh it off, replying that he had all he needed in his life. And you know, it did seem like it! His life was always full and interesting. He likes to go to the theater, he never misses a good art exhibition, and he snowboards. In addition to all that, he spends a lot of time with me and we enjoy hanging out together a lot. But I don't like to snowboard or ski, so usually he'd go to the mountains alone. And approximately one year ago he met John on a ski slope. Despite the fact that John was about fifteen years younger than my father and he was not in any way connected to teaching (he was a web designer), they quickly became good friends - joined at the hip, as they say. And I understood why about five minutes after I met John! They were so much alike – both in their looks and their personalities, with their habit of finding a way to turn everything into a joke, and the fact that they never get down. I liked John a lot. And I enjoyed the fact that he began to visit us very often. We had a huge house anyway, where there was enough room for everybody so it never caused any inconvenience. On the contrary actually, it was much more lively when John was around. A few months passed and I could not imagine our life without John. He loved theater almost as much my father and I did, he helped me with my Spanish, he helped my father with his library research, he played with our dog, who seemed to simply adore him. And you know, I was nothing but happy when my father told me, in his usual joking manner, that John visited us so often that it would be better and smarter if he just moved in and lived with us, instead of paying somebody else for an apartment somewhere else. And that was the story of how John moved in with us. And to see him at home, with all of us creating a small crowd in the kitchen while cooking breakfast, teasing each other, arguing about who's next to go food-shopping… and finally just going together… I have no idea at what exact moment I fell in love with him. I told you, I'm seventeen. And all of this had nothing to do with a little-girl-falling-in-love-with-Daddy’s-old-man-friend nonsense. Well, at least I didn’t think so. Anyway, I couldn’t find any reason why John and I couldn't be together. We got along really well and he was so much like my father, who was, in turn, an ideal of a man for me… and John was ALREADY like a part of our family. There was only one problem – I could not figure out how he felt about me. He told me nice and flattering things pretty often, he never avoided my company… but that was all. So I decided that he must be very well-mannered and therefore just didn't know how to behave in any other way with the young daughter of his best friend. And for me, it really only added more points to his charismatic personality. So nothing held me back from dreaming that if he liked me too, I could have a chance to marry the best man in the world! So there was just one little thing that remained, to work up the courage and clear things up. Well, fortune favors the brave! I couldn’t have picked a better moment! My dad was gone for two days with his students and John and I were left alone... Music by Epidemic Sound: https://www.epidemicsound.com #actuallyhappened

My name is Gordon, I'm 17 years old and for a year already I've had a girlfriend. Well, I HAD a girlfriend. I would like to tell you why I broke up with her. I liked Emma very much. She was so fragile, so modest, so beautiful. Most modern girls aim to be in no way inferior to guys but Emma was pure meekness. She always let me choose which movie to watch or which meal to order. And she never argued with me. I always felt very strong and masculine when I was with her. But as time passed, I started to find these particular qualities pretty annoying. Maybe I just didn't appreciate how lucky I was, but I got bored because she always agreed with me. The only thing that she was painfully strict about was time when she had to be at home. She was petrified by the very idea that she could come home after eight P.M.. Once, we were stuck in traffic on our way back from the movies and she sobbed violently all the way home, and she didn't want to explain to me why she could not simply call home and explain that she would be like fifteen minutes late! At first I thought that her parents were very strict, but then I met them at a picnic and they seemed very nice! Emma’s mother was still very beautiful, and Emma looked and acted a lot like her, very quiet and polite. I doubt she has ever scolded anyone. Emma’s father, Mark, made a great impression on me! Very bright, witty, self-confident, and charismatic.I'm embarrassed to admit this, but I even tried to compare him to my own father… and my old man totally lost. So, I had taken a lot pictures on the day of the picnic and the day after my mother and I went to visit her sister – my aunt. I've loved aunt Mary since my childhood and I always tell her in detail about everything that is going on in my life. So she knew that I had a girlfriend and now I told aunt Mary that I had finally met Emma’s family and showed her the photos from yesterday’s picnic. Aunt Mary couldn't wait to see the pictures, until she saw Emma’s father in one of them. She broke off and it seemed like her hand was shaking. “Do you know what his name is?” she asked in a strange, empty voice. And when I answered: “Of course! It's Mark!” she jumped up and ran out of the room. My mother followed her and I was left alone in the room, totally clueless. Soon my mother came back, looking very serious. “She'll be alright,” she said, answering my silent question and then added: “But you have to know something. A while ago your aunt knew Mark very well. And it was the most terrible story of her life. And my mom told me that Mary and Mark used to go out together – a long time ago, before I was even born. In the beginning everything was fine and aunt Mary was head over hills in love with this brilliant, macho guy. But soon she realized that Mark was trying to control her more and more. He decided what she should wear, which girls she should be friends with, and even which books she should read. And when she tried to object, he became more and more aggressive. …When he hit her for the first time, she was ready to leave him. But he didn't want to let her go. He became so nice again and asked for her forgiveness promising that everything would change. But nothing changed. As soon as Mary thought that everything was back to normal, Mark started to tighten his grip. And everything turned out bad again, Mary tried to leave him, he wouldn't let her go, and the story repeated again. And again. And again. At the end, Mary no longer understood what was going on and what she felt toward Mark – whether she loved him or whether she was afraid of him. She kept telling her parents that everything was great and that they were going to get married. Until her older sister, my mother, noticed the bruises on her hands and demanded that she tell her the truth. My mother helped aunt Mary to get rid of her abuser, they went to the police, and Mary got a court order to keep Mark away from her. But Mary never got over this relationship. Neither pills nor psychologists could help her. Since then she has been afraid of being in a relationship and has stayed single forever. I was shocked. And as we went home, I was thinking about Emma, her mother… and Mark. I started to realize that he has not changed at all. I remembered that Emma’s mother was wearing a long-sleeved shirt - probably to hide the bruises from her husband’s hands? I remembered how both she and her daughter meekly agreed with him. I also remembered how Emma was scared of being home late, even like by a minute... she was scared to death! I have to confess that when I went out with Emma the next time… I conducted a cruel experiment. Music by Epidemic Sound: https://www.epidemicsound.com #actuallyhappened

★ DO YOU WANT TO GET YOUR STORY ANIMATED? SEND IT TO [email protected] IT WILL BE GIVEN A VOICE OVER BY A PROFESSIONAL ACTOR AND AN ANIMATOR WILL MAKE A VIDEO OUT OF IT! ★ Subscribe ACTUALLY HAPPENED https://bit.ly/2J5HP7j This is Alan! You know what’s cooler than having a ton of money? Knowing how to make even more. And Alan knows how! You probably straight away think that he must be full of himself, so let him tell you his story. He’s 17 now, but this all happened when he was 12. So, Alan’s family is not very well off. They’re so poor that he wore the same shoes for an entire year, no matter whether it was raining or snowing. But those were good shoes; like, very durable ones. Like, they were the Iron Man of shoes – nothing could destroy them. They were much better than his brother’s, which made his feet hurt sometimes. But still, Alan’s shoes were veeery ugly, and he really wanted new ones. He dreamed of getting these sneakers that he’d seen once in a store. You may think that this was shallow – but remember that he was only 12 at the time. And in any case there was no way he could act on his wish to buy those shoes. He didn’t have any money! So you might think that he eventually gave up on the idea...but nope, not really. He started thinking that if he could just find a way of somehow making money, he could buy those shoes. And they weren’t cheap… His dad was always saying that he should study harder than he himself had, so that he could have a better life, and both Alan and his younger brother really took that advice to heart. He was a really diligent student and spent so much time studying. He got good grades but had no money, whereas plenty of his classmates got bad grades but had a lot of money. So Alan made them an offer – he would do their homework in exchange for money. Not a lot of money, but enough to save up and buy those sneakers after a couple of months. It was a pretty easy task for him, because basically, all he had to do was copy out his homework for them, changing it just a little so that nobody would know. He even had different prices for As, Bs, and other grades. And he also helped the older kids a little with some of their subjects – not like, math, but literature and history. Alan’s scheme went great at first, but then almost everybody stopped paying. He wondered why, and it turned out that they had made one guy pay and then copied his homework. He had to find a way to fix this, so he told them that if they were going do that, he would have to raise the price. They didn’t like that, but they also didn’t want to do their own homework, so they agreed and everything went back to normal. But then one of the guys wasn’t happy about it, and he actually revealed everything to the teacher. The teacher was very angry with Alan, and warned him that he had to stop doing it or else he and the other guys would have a lot of problems. So, he had to stop...but he still hadn't saved up enough to buy the sneakers he wanted. So of course, he came up with a new plan. Because many of the older kids now knew who he was, and their teachers didn’t know about his tricks, he asked them to give him cool stuff in exchange for their homework. You know – like toys, action figures, simple gadgets. He would then start playing with them in class, making it look like he was having a lot of fun. To be honest, it WAS fun. And, if someone asked him if they could play with something, he would say no, which made them want it more and more. Then at some point he would rent it to them or even sell it. Soon, he was buying stuff from the older kids and selling it for more money, instead of doing their homework. But of course, sooner or later their parents started to notice, and the teacher got angry with him again, saying that he was abusing the other children and it wasn’t okay. He disagreed, because they were very happy with all of it and henever like, forced them to buy anything. Eventually, he finally had enough money to buy the sneakers he had dreamed of for so long. So Alan bought them and went home. Finally, all his hard work had paid off, and even if he had found himself in a lot of trouble, he still ended up with what he wanted. Then he saw his brother’s shoes – they were in a way worse state than his, and he remembered how many times his brother had told him how much his feet hurt, and he was constantly sick because his shoes had a lot of holes in them and got wet every time he stepped in a puddle. So he gave the sneakers to his brother, and he was so happy and surprised. Honestly, it was much better to see his brother happy than to keep them for himself. His parents were angry at him at first, because they thought he had stolen them, but he then explained how he got them. And then they were proud of him because they thought he had done it all for his brother. He didn’t tell them that it had originally all been for himself, though. This is gonna be a story of my first love which is now a taboo subject in my family. Everything started a few months ago and it seems like I'm going to be disappointed, shocked, and frustrated for the rest of my life. I feel like I still love the guy and I deeply hate myself for it. Jackson moved to our town six months ago. He was born here actually, but when his mom died in a car accident many years ago, Jackson’s dad decided to get a fresh start in another city. They traveled through almost the whole country, when his dad’s job finally brought them back down here again. Anyway, soon afterward, he started going to our school and we became friends, but then we both agreed that we were attracted to each other in a romantic sense and decided to begin dating. Jackson’s cool, you know. He rides a motorcycle and looks really mysterious and wise. I mean, there was hardly any chance of me not falling in love with him. Once he had the idea to go their family’s lake house and spend the whole weekend there. We had not been dating for that long yet, and my parents actually had no idea that he had a motorcycle, otherwise they wouldn’t even let me talk to him, you know. That’s why I lied to them and told them that I was going to spend the weekend at my friend Angelica’s country house. I didn’t feel great about having lied to my parents. And I had a bit of an unpleasant feeling inside, even though I was pretty excited about spending two days with my love. That unpleasant and worrisome feeling began growing soon after Jackson and I set out for our top-secret trip. At first, we got a flat tire; then, while Jackson was trying to fix it, a huge truck passed by and sloshed us with water and mud. I thought that this had to be enough trouble for one day, but as they say, bad things come in threes, so when we finally arrived at the lake house, dirty and exhausted, it turned out that Jackson had taken the wrong set of keys. We had nothing to do but to break into the house, obviously damaging the lock. A couple of hours later when we had finally changed our clothes and ate our dinner, Jackson and I were sitting next to the fireplace looking through an old family album. He was telling me about his mom, showing me her photos, and I felt like even though he could barely remember her, he missed her a lot. Suddenly we came across a picture of Jackson’s young mom sitting next to… my young mom! I was so surprised that I even screamed. Jackson, on the other hand, didn't recognize the woman next to his mom, but when I told him who she actually was, he turned pale. We rushed to look through the rest of the photos and found another interesting picture. Even though this photo had been taken many years ago when I probably wasn’t even born yet, I could bet I knew that man. Even though he didn’t have a mustache and his hair was long, I was pretty sure this was my mom’s brother – my uncle Henry. Of course, I told Jackson this and he was no less surprised and confused than I was. We couldn’t wait until the morning to go back home and ask our parents about everything, so we just decided to return immediately that night. Jackson’s dad was out of town, so I had to be the first one to begin the investigation. Of course, I had to confess to my parents that I had lied to them. Because it was already 1 A.M. when I returned home, while they weren't expecting me until the next evening. Dad was already sleeping and the talk with my mom wasn’t nice at all. She didn’t want to hear any explanation for why I had lied to her and how come I’d even dared to date a guy with a motorcycle, so she’d severely grounded me for that. And when I showed her the pictures of these photos on my cell phone and explained everything to her, she looked like she had just seen a ghost. She yelled at me, and told me that I was no longer allowed to see Jackson and that he’d better stay out of our family. I was devastated and I didn’t understand anything. At first I thought that my mom didn’t mean it, about me not seeing Jackson at all, and that she was just disappointed in my lies. But the next day she literally wouldn’t let me out of the house, constantly asking me to do something for her. Then, when the week started and I had to go to school, I wasn’t really expecting that mom would ask dad to come and pick me after my classes. So I basically had no chance to hang out with Jackson and I was totally confused because nobody would explain anything to me. By the way, Jackson managed to ask his dad about these photos, but the information he’d gotten explained nothing. Music by Epidemic Sound: https://www.epidemicsound.com #actuallyhappened
