A Girl And Her Gun Drama Short Film Omeleto

A bullied 12-year-old finds solace watching classic western movies. Then, she finds a gun and stands up to her tormentors. ➤ SUBSCRIBE: http://sub2.omele.to A Girl and Her Gun is used with permission from Paul Holbrook, Sam Dawe and Shunk Films. Learn more at http://omele.to/2tOHMXX and http://omele.to/2KGNlOP. A neglected 12-year-old girl faces down her father's impending death, leaving her vulnerable to the tensions and threats in her environment. She's tormented by bullies at school who grind down any sense of value she has, and she's woefully overlooked by her guardian at home, leaving her prey to her guardian's menacing boyfriend. The girl's only solace comes from TV, where she watches classic Westerns, which allows her to experience vicariously a sense of dominance and power. But when she finds a gun among her dad's belongings, movies and real life start to blur in possibly dangerous ways. Directing team Paul Holbrook and Samuel Dawe's tense drama combines "kitchen sink" gritty realist British drama with the almost theatrical tensions and silence of the classic Western genre. The combination of the styles is fascinating, but serves both the story and the main character, who develops a vivid imaginative life to find relief from the depressing financial and emotional poverty of her real life. The story takes time to set up the unnamed girl's circumstances, but once the storytelling kicks in, it powers forward, ratcheting up the tension to an almost unbearable point. The short is anchored by a strong main performance by the young lead Matilda Randall, who seethes and suffers, often in silence. She never "indicates" emotion, beautifully underplaying the dark undertows of her grief, sadness and anger. And when they finally bubble up to the surface in the final gripping confrontation, her actions and decisions are soul-crushing, both for her and the audience. "A Girl And Her Gun" juggles both an audacious aesthetic experiment and heart-wrenching social commentary, posing fascinating questions about the enduring pull of violence and its intersection with social disenfranchisement. The craftsmanship of the film is impeccable, with taut camerawork and excellent acting, but ultimately the main impact of the story is emotional and visceral -- and memorable for its devastation. Sophia Drama Short Film Omeleto
Sophia Drama Short Film Omeleto

A homeless subway violinist has her world turned upside down when her most prized possession is stolen. ➤ SUBSCRIBE: http://sub2.omele.to Sophia is used with permission from Jared Rosenthal and PROM Creative. Learn more at http://omele.to/2OOQxK4. Sophia is a homeless woman who plays violin for audiences in the subway, eking out an existence among the urban grit and bustle of New York. But one day her violin gets stolen, turning her world upside down and threatening her livelihood. Desperate and afraid, she goes in search of her most prized possession, but without her violin, she becomes truly invisible, unacknowledged by society -- and is driven to desperate measures to regain any tenuous sense of belonging in the world. Writer-director Jared Rosenthal has crafted a powerful short drama examining what it means to be deprived and live in the face of constant scarcity. As a homeless woman, Sophia has very little in her life, but the one thing she has, she holds dear -- not just as a means of making any kind of living, but a way to bring beauty and dignity to her life. Her violin is her identity, her only way of being something beyond just homeless and invisible to the people around her. With intimate handheld camerawork, the film is not afraid to delve into the grit and difficulty of being a homeless. But it also takes great pains to record the beauty that Sophia brings to the world, making for rich contrasts in not just the images but sounds. Sophia's beautiful playing must compete against the clanging of the subway and sounds of the crowd -- and the co-existence creates both dynamic and dramatic tension. The film's foundation, though, is a terrific acting performance from lead actor Jenna Williams, who captures both the consummate talent of a violinist and the desperation of a homeless woman teetering on the edge of society. Raw and heartbreaking, this is a sensitive, considered snapshot of a turning point in one woman's difficult life. With strong storytelling and craft, "Sophia" bestows honesty and empathy onto its subject, opening our eyes -- and hopefully our hearts -- to a character too often ignored by society, or shrouded in harmful stereotypes. A young woman decides to air out some dirty laundry and brave the scrutiny of a catty dinner party to win back her name. ➤ SUBSCRIBE: http://sub2.omele.to F Is for Friendship is used with permission from Shaya Mulcahy. Learn more at http://omele.to/2LqBYuj. Struggling writer Emily decides to air out some dirty laundry and clear her name at a dinner party, clashing with a friend who's more of a "frenemy" and shifting her identity in the process. Writer and director Shaya Mulcahy's sharp, witty short comedy is a self-contained world of its own, taking place mostly over the course of one very contentious dinner party. The drama is excellently paced, keeping viewers drawn in with juicy tension and conflict. The cinematography and editing is loose and fun, evoking a creative, shambolic existence that feels constantly improvised and revised -- and very true to the world of a creative young adult trying to find her place in the world while others around her seem to fall into success with ease. Perfectly calibrated performances bring a smart, sophisticated script to life, illuminating a complicated portrait of female friendship and competition. In her quest to clear her name, Emily experiences a shift in self-perception, moving from a place of self-loathing to one of self-acceptance. Fans of female-focused sharp-edged urban fare -- think "Girls," for example -- will find the deep interest in one woman's quest to speak her truth deeply fascinating. In an age where "empowerment" has become a marketing term, "F Is for Friendship" is a true lesson in what it means to claim your power, take responsibility for your life -- and create authenticity in the process. Growth Drama Short Film Omeleto

The rise and downfall of a family over the course of 20 years, in one living room, in a single shot. ➤ SUBSCRIBE: http://sub2.omele.to Growth is used with permission from Sil van der Woerd. Learn more at http://omele.to/2CMeoDk. Watch the behind-the-scenes at http://omele.to/2CNc8f9. Director Sil van der Woerd follows the ups and downs of one family's life over the course of 20 years -- all compressed into one impressive shot. Set within one home, a family comes together and then is pulled apart by conflict, neglect and time over two decades. The home's decor, weather and seasons all change as the family circles through several events and emotions that test their connection. Van der Woerd used complex camera rigs to meld together different shots into a seamless, elegantly fluid whole -- all while dealing with a large cast of actors portraying the family over time. The director's craftsmanship and acumen are all readily apparent, used in service to a larger, emotionally resonant story. By keeping the space of the film unified while compressing the years the family journeys through together, "Growth" ably captures how time can both salvage and ravage relationships, revealing how emotions can imperceptibly build and warp under the surface until they're impossible to ignore. Verde Drama Short Film Omeleto
Verde Drama Short Film Omeleto

Two sisters goof around on a hot summer day. But when their cousins come over, priorities begin to change. ➤ SUBSCRIBE: http://sub2.omele.to Verde is used with permission from Victoria Rivera. Learn more at http://omele.to/2DZMdF5 and http://omele.to/2WRujvz. Emilia and Martina are two sisters who are just hanging out one hot summer day at their home in Colombia. Close to inseparable, older sister Martina at the precipice between childhood and adult life. But the pair still play and laugh together in their hermetic paradise. But their bond is changed when some of their cousins pay them a visit, and as the whispers of a changing family dynamic arise in the background, one sister discovers that the other is changing, almost right before her eyes. Director Victoria Rivera -- along with writer Neda Jebelli and producer Camila Zavala -- crafts a soulful, beautiful coming-of-age story about the tiny ruptures that lead to a bigger break in a close-knit relationship. With a luminous, steady sense of craft and a storytelling style attuned to silence and subtlety, this dramatic short crystallizes a small yet significant shift in one young girl's life. Much about the film is a pleasure to watch, from the lush, verdant scenery of the film to the relationship between the sisters, which is full of warmth, trust and love. The performances of the two young actresses playing the sisters -- Samantha Medellin and Maria Elvira Ramirez -- are both naturalistic and precise, attuned to the unspoken expectations and expressions that exist between close family members. The camerawork is equally as subtle, capturing the story with an almost documentary-style casualness. Yet this seemingly offhand style is actually very specific, attuned to the small ways and gestures of the actors and the little details of their quiet yet shifting world. Sister Emilia is still very much a child, playing with her feet, the cushion on a sofa or with a tree, while Martina is increasingly watchful and self-conscious, observing herself closely in the mirror with narrowed eyes. When Emilia realizes that she is "left behind" in childhood by her bigger sister, the moment is quiet and yet cataclysmic, especially for a character that has no one else equally as close to turn to. "Verde" has a unique storytelling dynamic, in that its coming-of-age narrative focuses less on "firsts" and coming together and more on saying goodbye and growing apart. By focusing the story on what is left behind by the inevitability of growing up, viewers are left with an impression of melancholy as indelible yet palpable as the indentation in the cushion left when someone gets up from next to you and walks away. Poetic, delicate and yet without sentimentality, this is a story about a turning point -- one that happens almost imperceptibly, but has the momentous, quiet undertow of gravity.
