[Video Courtesy: Star Sports] U.P. Yoddha entered the top 6 in the vivo Pro Kabaddi Season 7 standings after a 33-26 win over Gujarat Fortunegiants.

U.P. Yoddha moved to the fifth spot in the vivo Pro Kabaddi Season 7 standings after a 33-26 win over Gujarat Fortunegiants at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Indoor Stadium in Kolkata on Monday. Shrikant Jadhav was their highest-scoring raider on the night with six raid points, while Sumit picked up a High 5 in defence.

It was a slow start to the contest, with both sets of defenders dominating for most of the first half. The raiders started to grow into the match in the second quarter of the game but neither team was in control even though U.P. Yoddha had a slender 6-5 lead.

Gujarat Fortunegiants got their noses in front in the 11th minute but couldn’t quite build any momentum and open up a gap between them and U.P. Yoddha. The circumspect style of play from both teams continued through the half as most of the points came in Do-or-Die situations.

The match finally burst into life in the closing stages of the half after a couple of successful raids by Surender Gill and a few crunching tackles saw U.P. Yoddha enforce an All-Out and take a five-point lead. A two-point raid by Rishank Devadiga moments later ensured that U.P. Yoddha extended their lead to 16-9 going into the break

U.P. Yoddha’s first success of the second period also came in the form of a two-point raid and this time Jadhav was the raider. But a Super Tackle on Jadhav by Gujarat Fortunegiants’ skipper Sunil Kumar soon after sent U. P. Yoddha’s leading raid points scorer this season to the bench.

However, Sunil was less fortunate in his side’s next Super Tackle attempt as Gill successfully managed to escape him to score another multi-point raid that inflicted an All-Out and extended U.P. Yoddha’s lead to 24-12.

Undeterred, Gujarat Fortunegiants responded in style with a four-point Super Raid from Sachin Tanwar. The two-time finalists then defended with discipline, while Sachin picked up quick raid points to help usher in an All-Out on U.P. Yoddha and reduce their lead to 25-21 with a little under nine minutes left on the clock.

Gujarat Fortunegiants went on to give it their all and tried to reduce the deficit even further through aggression on both ends of the mat. However, U.P Yoddha’s defence upped their game in the closing stages and were decisive in their tackles. Their raiders, too, ran down the clock intelligently to help them secure a seven-point win.

Pardeep Narwal becomes first player to cross 1000 raid points as Patna Pirates beat Tamil Thalaivas Patna Pirates snapped their six-match losing streak in vivo Pro Kabaddi Season 7 with a 51-25 win over Tamil Thalaivas at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Indoor Stadium in Kolkata on Monday. ‘Record-Breaker’ Pardeep Narwal was the star of the show with 26 raids points and became the first player in league history to cross 1000 career raid points. Patna Pirates started the game confidently with Pardeep Narwal causing all sorts of problems for Tamil Thalaivas’ defence. They inflicted the first All-Out of the game on Tamil Thalaivas in the ninth minute to open up an 11-4 lead and take immediate control of the match. Pardeep then became the first player to reach 1000 raid points with around about five minutes left in the first half as Tamil Thalaivas’ defence struggled to find an answer for the ‘Record-Breaker’. Tamil Thalaivas eventually executed a Super Tackle on Pardeep towards the end of the half, but the Patna Pirates skipper still finished the opening period with 12 raid points to his name as his team took an 18-13 lead into the break.    The three-time champions began the second period with intent and enforced a second All-Out on Tamil Thalaivas four minutes into the half to extend their lead to 25-13. Pardeep wasn’t done yet, though, and continued to dominate proceedings. Two Super Raids by him in quick succession helped inflict a third All-Out on the southerners and extended Patna Pirates’ lead 37-15. Even though the game was done and dusted as a contest by this stage, Patna Pirates were unrelenting in terms of their intensity and enforced a fourth All-Out on Tamil Thalaivas with six minutes left to play. They crossed the 50-point mark in the final minute and finished the game having scored the most points by a team this season. [Video Courtesy: Star Sports] A defensive shootout ends in tie between Jaipur Pink Panthers and Gujarat Fortunegiants Vishal scored 9 tackle points for the home side while Parvesh Bhainswal scored a High 5 as the match ended in a 28-28 tie. Jaipur Pink Panthers and Gujarat Fortunegiants played out a 28-28 tie in the former’s first home match at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Saturday. The hard-fought contest was headlined by both defences as 35 tackle points were scored on the night. After an even first quarter where the defenders of both sides showed their might and the scores were tied at 6 apiece, Jaipur Pink Panthers’ skipper Deepak Hooda helped his team race ahead with a two-point raid. Corner Sandeep Dhull then added to his tally by tackling Sonu before Hooda inflicted the first All Out of the match in his next raid to give Jaipur Pink Panthers a 12-6 lead. The Jaipur Pink Panthers defence stayed strong even after that and allowed only Sachin from Gujarat Fortunegiants any raid points while their skipper kept picking up points in attack. At the halftime whistle, the home team led 15-10 after having scored 8 tackle points in the half. Hooda was tackled only once in the entire half and had 4 touch points to his name. Jaipur Pink Panthers started the second period with back-to-back Super tackles, first on Sachin and then Rohit Gulia. The second of those also gave Vishal his High 5. However, once Sachin was revived, he immediately sent Vishal to the bench and that ushered in an All Out on Jaipur Pink Panthers to help the visitors make it a two-point game. The home team managed to hang on to their slender lead through the third quarter, but Gujarat Fortunegiants managed to equalise at 21-21 in the 10th minute through their skipper Sunil Kumar. Sachin then picked up a touch on Dhull and Parvesh Bhainswal sent substitute Ajinkya Pawar to the bench to reduce Jaipur Pink Panthers down to two men on the mat. However, Vishal and Nitin Rawal managed to hold down Gulia after an intense struggle to pull off a Super Tackle before another Super Tackle initiated by Rawal helped his team equalise at 26-26. Bhainswal seemed to have put his team ahead by sending Hooda to the bench in the next raid. But a third Super Tackle in quick succession saw the home team seize the lead yet again. With the last raid of the match remaining, Gujarat Fortunegiants played a high line of defence and tackled down Rawal as the clock ran out with the scores tied at 28-28. [Video Courtesy: Star Sports] Haryana Steelers beat U Mumba to leapfrog them in standings Vikash Kandola’s 9 raid points helped Haryana Steelers overcome U Mumba 30-27. Haryana Steelers held their nerve through a close contest to register a narrow 30-27 win over U Mumba at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai on Monday. Vikash Kandola played a starring role for Haryana Steelers with 9 raid points, including a couple of crucial points in the closing stages of the contest. U Mumba started brightly thanks to an early tackle by Harendra Kumar that sent Haryana Steelers’ dangerman Kandola to the bench. Arjun Deshwal then got in on the action with a successful two-point raid. Haryana Steelers, though, fought back as Kandola returned to the mat and executed a Super Raid to put his side into a 5-4 lead. The Season 2 champions responded with a two-point raid by Athul MS to retake the lead as both sets of raiders dominated the first 10 minutes of the contest. Just as it looked like Haryana Steelers were edging towards inflicting an All-Out, U Mumba’s Sandeep Narwal came up with a Super Tackle. However, Sandeep’s contribution merely delayed the inevitable as Haryana Steelers went on to enforce an All-Out on U Mumba and take a 13-8 lead. The first half came to a close with Haryana Steelers very much on top as their defenders also began to grow into the contest. They took a 16-8 lead into the break and ensured that U Mumba would start the second half with just four men on court. Haryana Steelers began the second period looking to inflict a second All-Out on U Mumba. However, Fazel ‘Sultan’ Atrachali executed a Super Tackle to thwart Haryana Steelers’ momentum, while giving U Mumba fresh impetus. Atrachali’s tackle helped turn the tides of the contest in U Mumba’s favour, but Haryana Steelers executed successive Super Tackles to maintain their lead. A two-point raid in a Do-or-Die situation by Sandeep Narwal finally helped usher in an All-Out on Haryana Steelers with a little over four minutes left to play. Though the score was 26-23 in favour of Haryana Steelers after the All-Out, U Mumba had momentum on their side. A couple of successful raids by Abhishek Singhand one by Athul reduced the gap to one point. Kandola, though, showed tremendous resolve and continued to score raid points for Haryana Steelers to squash U Mumba’s chances of a comeback and give his side a slender three-point victory. Pankaj Mohite’s career-best raiding performance, backed by Surjeet Singh and Sagar Krishna’s High 5s, gave Puneri Paltan a 42-38 victory in their last home game at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex, Mahalunge, Balewadi in Pune on Friday. Mohite was unstoppable on the night and was tackled just once in the entire match. Though Bengaluru Bulls took an early lead in the contest, Puneri Paltan’s defence brought their team back through some robust tackles to send back ‘Hi-Flyer’ Pawan Sehrawat and Rohit Kumar. Pankaj Mohite’s Super Raid then ushered in an All Out on Bengaluru Bulls as Puneri Paltan claimed a 10-6 lead. Mohite and the Puneri Paltan defence kept picking up points to maintain their lead before Rohit Kumar struck back with a Super Raid of his own to bring the score difference down to three. However, Darshan Kadian sent him back in his next raid and Mohite followed that up with a two-point raid to put Puneri Paltan back in the driver’s seat. Surjeet Singh reached his High 5 with a tackle on Sherawat in the 16th minute and Rohit scored back-to-back successful raids as the score difference remained at 5 and Puneri Paltan led 20-15 at halftime. Mohite reached his Super 10 in his first raid of the second half and Hadi Tajik sent Rohit to the bench soon after. Another two successful raids by Mohite then brought on the All Out on Bengaluru Bulls once again to push Puneri Paltan’s lead to 11 points. Sehrawat found some momentum once the team reassembled on the mat and put in three successive successful raids including one where he got touches on Surjeet and Tajik, as Bengaluru Bulls cut the score difference to six. Rohit also reached his Super 10 with a two-point raid soon after to bring Puneri Paltan down to three men on the mat. However, Sagar Krishna Super Tackled Rohit twice in quick succession to bring up his High 5 and keep Bengaluru Bulls from inflicting the All Out. Riding on a terrific raid performance by ‘Hi-Flyer’ Pawan Sehrawat, Bengaluru Bulls beat U Mumba by 30-26. The match was built as the battle between the “Hi-Flyer” Pawan Sehrawat and Fazel “Sultan” Atrachali and it was the raider who came out on top. The home-side displayed a strong performance in their home stadium against Puneri Paltan and was more than ready to face Bengaluru Bulls, against whom they have their second best record with 10 victories. ‘Hi-Flyer’ Pawan Sehrawat got a Super 10 and single-handedly flipped the table for Bengaluru Bulls as they sneaked their way through victory against home team U Mumba. Yoddha closed the gap on the top 6 in vivo Pro Kabaddi Season 7 after a 32-29 win over Bengal Warriors at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru on Sunday. Shrikant Jadhav was once again the star raider for U.P. Yoddha, while skipper Nitesh Kumar was their best defender. Bengal Warriors started well and took a 3-0 lead before U.P. Yoddha picked up their first point of the match in the fourth minute. It looked like U.P. Yoddha would succumb to the first All-Out of the game towards the end of the first quarter of the contest. However, two Super Tackles by skipper Nitesh Kumar and a two-point raid by substitute Ankush ensured that Bengal Warriors would have to work harder to get there. U.P. Yoddha went on to take the lead momentarily towards the end of the half, but a Super Tackle by Bengal Warriors’ Rinku Narwalhelped wrestle back the advantage for his team. Bengal Warriors finished the opening half with another Super Tackle and, even though U.P. Yoddha got a point after that, they still trailed Bengal Warriors 12-13 going into the break.   U.P. Yoddha levelled things up at 13-13 in the second period before a Super Tackle by Baldev Singh got Bengal Warriors back in front. Successive successful raids by Shrikant Jadhav, though, finally helped inflict the first All-Out of the game and gave U.P. Yoddha a 19-17 lead with close to 15 minutes left in the match. Jadhav continued to score raid points for U.P. Yoddha but Bengal Warriors showed their class on both ends of the mat to tie things up at 23-23 soon after. Prapanjan, however, gave U.P. Yoddha a one-point lead to protect in the last five minutes. U.P. Yoddha went on to extend their lead to three points. Bengal Warriors took the game to the buzzer raid in search of a tie, with a Super Tackle on in a Do-or-Die situation. Telugu Titans Vs Haryana Steelers Pro Kabaddi Highlights 2019 PKL 2019 18 August English
Telugu Titans Vs Haryana Steelers Pro Kabaddi Highlights 2019 PKL 2019 18 August English

by Sportskeeda ...

Siddharth Desai was the star for Telugu Titans as he proved ‘form is temporary, and class is permanent’ with a Super 10 to help his team secure a 40-29 win against Haryana Steelers in a crucial VIVO Pro Kabaddi League encounter at Chennai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium on Sunday. Siddharth’s 18 points, including his second Super 10 of the season, was too much to contain for the Haryana Steelers who’s three-match winning run came to a halt in their first match of the Chennai-leg. Telugu Titans went into the match with just one win in eight matches, but the lack of confidence was certainly not evident from the outset as the Desai brothers of Siddharth and Suraj took the game to the Steelers. In-form Vikash Kandola, on the back of a hat-trick of Super 10s, was in no mood to let the Titans run away with the match though as he kept pace with the South Indian team. The most crucial point of the first half came with 8 minutes remaining when Siddarth Desai combined well with his team to tackle Vikash Kandola. Vishal Bhardwaj, playing his 50th match in PKL, brought about the first all-out in the match, assisting Abozar Mighani to tackle Naveen with four minutes remaining to half time. Steelers’ recent resurgence in form had been largely due to Vikash Kandola’s ability to perform in Do-or-Die (team success ratio of 60%) and Super-Tackle situations (personal SR of 88%), but the Telugu Titans had a well-prepared plan for the quick raider, tackling him out once more before the half ended at 21-13 in favour of the Titans. The second half ended up just like the first, with Telugu’s defence not allowing Vikash Kandola to settle into the game. They inflicted the second all-out on Haryana with 11 minutes remaining till the end with Siddharth Desai leading the Telugu attack. Kandola’s super raid with two minutes left in the clock led to a near-collapse for the Titans but the side held on to their nerves to escape an all-out and clinch the match. Siddharth’s return to form will be the highlight for the Titans who now look a well-balanced unit. Watch the highlights of the match here in English. For UP Yoddha Nitesh Kumar scored 6 tackle points and became the first defender in the history of VIVO Pro Kabddi League to score 100 tackle points in single season. His fine effort went in vain as UP Yoddha raiders couldn’t produce enough points and crashed out of the tournament. Video Courtesy: Star Sports #PKLvideos #PKLhighlights #ProKabaddi
