[Video Courtesy: Star Sports] U Mumba’s strong second-half display helps them overcome Tamil Thalaivas Tamil Thalaivas finished their home leg winless after a 24-29 loss to U Mumba in their final match at Chennai. U Mumba ensured that Tamil Thalaivas finished their vivo Pro Kabaddi Season 7 home leg without a win by registering a 29-24 victory over the hosts at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai on Friday. Athul MS was the leading scorer in the match with seven raid points and he played a big role in U Mumba’s second-half fightback. Tamil Thalaivas began the match positively and raced into a 4-1 lead after four minutes with ‘Showman’ Rahul Chaudhari scoring three raid points, including a two-point raid. U Mumba gradually grew into the contest with some strong tackling and tied the score at 5-5 after the opening 10 minutes. However, Tamil Thalaivas soon reestablished their lead thanks to a couple of successive raids from ‘Iceman’ Ajay Thakur. He received support from Chaudhari, who picked up another two-point raid to extend the home side’s lead to 9-6. With halftime approaching, it looked like Tamil Thalaivas would inflict an All-Out. But a Super Tackle by Harendra Kumar on Chaudhari denied Tamil Thalaivas the All-Out and helped U Mumba reduce their deficit to 10-12 at the break. V. Ajith Kumar began the second half with a successful raid for the hosts only for Sandeep Narwal to respond with a two-point raid for U Mumba. The visitors moved into the lead five minutes into the second period after a two-point raid by Athul MS made it 15-14 in U Mumba’s favour. Things would get better for U Mumba soon after courtesy of another two-point raid by Athul that enforced an All-Out on Tamil Thalaivas. With momentum now on their side, U Mumba looked to build on their lead. However, Tamil Thalaivas weren’t prepared to let U Mumba dictate terms and clawed their way back into the contest with some decisive defending and swift raiding. A successful Do-or-Die raid by Chaudhari with a little less than six minutes to play saw Tamil Thalaivas cut U Mumba’s lead to just three points. A successful raid by Sandeep Narwal as well as successful tackles by Rajaguru Subramanian and Harendra soon after halted Tamil Thalaivas’ momentum. The hosts fought valiantly till the end, but U Mumba kept their discipline and defended resolutely to see off Tamil Thalaivas’ charge for a five-point win. A fifth Super 10 of the season from ‘Hi-Flyer’ Pawan Sehrawat and a second career High 5 from Saurabh Nandal helped Bengaluru Bullscurb their two-match losing streak and beat Tamil Thalaivas by a scoreline of 32-21 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai on Saturday. The last man on the mat for Tamil Thalaivas, Manjeet Chhillar, went in to raid and picked up a bonus to get his team off the mark, but he too was tackled as the reigning champions inflicted an All-Out in just under seven minutes. The home side fared much better after reassembling on the mat and outscored Bengaluru Bulls 5-2 over the next five minutes to cut their deficit to seven. Shabeer’s two-point raid and Thakur’s touch point on Nandal got the momentum on Tamil Thalaivas’ side. But three unanswered points from Bengaluru Bulls put them back up by eight points. Tamil Thalaivas added two more points to their score while allowing the visitors just one as the teams headed into the half-time break with Bengaluru Bulls leading 17-10. After a cagey seven minutes in the second period, V Ajith Kumar’s touch point, followed by a Ran Singh tackle on Rohit Kumar, saw Tamil Thalaivas cut the deficit down to just four points. [Video Courtesy: Star Sports] Abhishek Singh and a resilient defence star in U Mumba’s victory over Telugu Titans U Mumba’s corner duo of Fazel Atrachali and Sandeep Narwal combined for eight tackle points in an impressive display against Telugu Titans. An impressive display by the defence coupled with a Super 10 from raider Abhishek Singh helped U Mumba beat the Telugu Titans by a scoreline of 31-25 in the opening match of VIVO Pro Kabaddi Season 7 at the Gachibowli Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad on Saturday. U Mumba got off to a good start and took an early two-point lead, courtesy of a couple of tackle points from skipper Fazel Atrachali and a point each from raiders Athul MS and Abhishek Singh. However, all-rounder Farhad Milaghardan picked up a raid point and Telugu Titans captain Farhad Milaghardan scored a tackle point and brought parity to the scoreline at 4-4. But that proved to be a momentary respite, as U Mumba picked up eight of the next ten points, courtesy of a couple of two-point raids from Rohit Baliyan and Abhishek Singh, with the latter enforcing the season’s first All-Out on the home side, helping U Mumba take a 12-6 lead in the contest. The visitors continued their momentum post the All-Out, as raiders Athul and Singh added a point each to their tallies on the night and all-rounder Sandeep Narwal picked up two tackle points to give U Mumba a nine-point lead in the contest. Substitute raider and debutant Rakesh Gowda picked up his first-ever point in VIVO Pro Kabaddi with a Toe Touch on Singh and the two teams headed into the half-time break with U Mumba leading 17-9. After the restart, Rajnish kept the scoreboard ticking for Telugu Titans by picking up bonus points, but U Mumba raiders were dealing heavy damage with touch points of their own and reduced the home side down to three men within the first four minutes of the second half. Abhishek added two more touch points to his tally and U Mumba’s defence got rid of the last man to inflict a second All-Out on Telugu Titans, taking a 24-13 lead. Desai’s first two raid points of the night and some brilliant work from the defence helped the home team embark on a 6-2 run and bring themselves back into the contest, but two emphatic tackles from Atrachali snuffed out their momentum and restored an eight-point advantage for his team. Abhishek extended U Mumba’s lead with a two-point raid and in the process, also completed his Super 10, the third of his career. Haryana Steelers held their nerve through a close contest to register a narrow 30-27 win over U Mumba at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai on Monday. Vikash Kandola played a starring role for Haryana Steelers with 9 raid points, including a couple of crucial points in the closing stages of the contest. Arjun Deshwal then got in on the action with a successful two-point raid. Haryana Steelers, though, fought back as Kandola returned to the mat and executed a Super Raid to put his side into a 5-4 lead. The Season 2 champions responded with a two-point raid by Athul MS to retake the lead as both sets of raiders dominated the first 10 minutes of the contest. Just as it looked like Haryana Steelers were edging towards inflicting an All-Out, U Mumba’s Sandeep Narwal came up with a Super Tackle. However, Sandeep’s contribution merely delayed the inevitable as Haryana Steelers went on to enforce an All-Out on U Mumba and take a 13-8 lead.
