For those of you who know me, know that I passionately follow a few things about life.
Politics, Technology you already know about. And I talk about that often, here.
So lets change gears and talk about my sporting obsession, Formula 1.And in particular the team I totally obsessed with Force India.
The Racing team known as Sahara Force India was first known as Team Jordan.
After Eddie Jordan, a former F1 racer, the teams constructor and now an F1 broadcaster.
It was a good team, it had the likes of Michael Schumacher, Damon Hill and Rubens Barrichello in the car.
But the team slowly succumbed to its financial woes and was sold to Midland Group.
The team still raced as Jordan in 2004 and even gave a racing seat to Narain Karthikeyan.
Remember that? That was embarrassing for all Indians.
Thankfully, his reliability issues were over shadowed by the cars reliability problems, even when the team pumped its chest and resurfaced in 2006 as Midland F1 Racing. And, it quickly fell to the back of the grid before being sold again.
This time to Spyker Cars and became Spyker F1.
Who for some odd reason didn’t look interested in owning the F1 team even after buying it.
Rich People. I am rich and I am stuck with an F1 team, I don’t know what to do?
Now the team even had a hard time even finishing races, And was sold again.
The team Finally remerged as Force India Formula One Team in 2008.
And launched its car and livery, iconically, at the The Gateway of India in Mumbai.
But underinvestment and continued changes of ownership had led the team to fall behind
And after a lacklustre season, Force India could at best score a tenth place finish in Spanish Grand Prix.
The Next two years, they were mostly playing catch up.
Although in 2009 Giancarlo Fisichella finished 2nd in Belgian.
Grabbing Force India’s first podium finish.and in 2010, they managed to score a deal with Mercedes as their engine supplier.
And managed to finish a respectable sixth in 2010
And again in 2011, this time, just four points behind the Renault and 5th place, which comes with the coveted seat on the FIA development body. 2012, 2013 Force India became a serious midfield contender with their unusual racing strategies and tactics, but their cars usually finished lower but consistently in the points. In 2014 the team visibly shifted gears again they not only changed their livery, by adding black to the saffron white and green.
They also came in with set of new fast drivers. Sergio Perez from McLaren and the returning Nico Hulkenberg from Sauber.
Who won the Le Man 24 hour race the same year. And the cars speed was evident when, Perez took a third place podium finish in Bahrain.
Their first since 2009.
However they still managed to finish 6th at the end of a very competitive year.
Damn those McLaren, and Williams. In 2015 the team took its unusual strategies off the track and to the car, in this case cars.
For the first half of the season they ran their Spec A car, a modified 2014 car. Staying competitive. While developing their 2015 car, which they brought in and Checo Perez raced the blocks of everybody and grabbing another podium in Russia.
Nico Hulkenberg was fast consistently too, beating the likes off Mclarens, Toro Rosso, Williams.
And, finally our team conquered the fabled 5 the place and a seat on the development table.
A moment of silent revelry please.Since the beginning of 2016, the Force India cars have looked Zippy.
Although at the start of the season the cars were involved in crashes. But with the latest developments to their front wing, Perez has managed to score two podium finishes in the last three races. One in legendary Monaco and one in Azerbaijan.
And we are not even halfway through the season yet.
With 12 Races remaining The VJM08 is perhaps the third fastest on the grid and its podium prospects look great.
Its pretty sexy girl too.
No matter what your opinion on the Team Principal Vijay Mallya is, this is the 5th fastest racing team in the world. And it calls itself Force India and I support it.
