How To Climb Like A Pro Emma Pooleys Guide To Climbing Nasty
How To Climb Like A Pro Emma Pooleys Guide To Climbing Nasty

by Global Cycli...

The physics of cycling uphill is clear: it’s about the ratio of power to weight. That doesn’t necessarily mean you have to be super skinny to climb well - I know some really strong climbers who are a little, erm, chunky… they just have a lot of power! Especially for short climbs, that can be very effective. Subscribe to GCN: http://gcn.eu/SubscribeToGCN Register your interest in the GCN Club: http://gcn.eu/wy Get exclusive GCN gear in the GCN shop! http://gcn.eu/wz But when it comes to racing, or even dare I suggest it, training in a slightly competitive way with your mates, there are a few nuances to climbing beyond simply power-to-weight ratio. Climbing with other people is different to solo training. Mainly psychologically - but also, you can do a lot of physiological damage if you work it right! There are nice ways to ride with other people up a climb (holding a steady power, no half wheeling or surging, or even sitting up front to take the wind). But cycling is not always nice… in a race, you want to use every opportunity to hurt your opponents or escape from the peloton. Back in the day, when I was racing, I’d usually have to use the climbs to do that. So today I’m going to go through a few of the ways I learned, back in the day, to turn on the hurt on the uphills. You could call it “how to climb nasty”! If you'd like to contribute captions and video info in your language, here's the link 👍 http://gcn.eu/wx Watch more on GCN... Cycling training can be tough, and to get faster and better you need to avoid falling into these traps. Become a GCN fan: http://gcn.eu/SubscribeToGCN Just riding all the time won't help you to get quicker, make sure you break it down and go for some harder sessions on a turbo trainer or sprint intervals. Dressing properly will help you to be able to train whatever the weather. Epic training rides probalby won't help you, despite what the pros do, and if you are out on a training ride, don't for get to take a basic bike repair kit! Really importantly, don't forget to rest! Road Tubeless Tyres – Are They Worth It?

Road tubeless tyres offer increased puncture resistance and allow you to run lower pressures. But are they worth it? Simon Richardson finds out. Subscribe to GCN: http://gcn.eu/SubscribeToGCN Tubeless tyres have been around for ages and it's safe to say that they near-dominate the MTB market. But, on the road it's a different story; they're just not very widely used and they're yet to make an impact in the pro peloton. We got hold of a set of tubeless tyres and wheels to see what they're like. From weight, to tyre pressure and ride quality, Simon Richardson put them through their paces. What did he think? 5 More Hacks To Make Your Bike Even Faster
5 More Hacks To Make Your Bike Even Faster

by GCN Tech

Recently we gave you 5 completely free hacks to go faster on your bike, and plenty of you got stuck in with comments with more suggestions. Jon thought it best to do a part two, so here are 5 more hacks to go even faster on your bike! Subscribe: http://gcntech.co/subscribetogcntech The GCN Shop: http://gcntech.co/dr GCN Tech Uploader: http://gcntech.co/upload Slam your stem - A controversial one to start with. Getting low is a sure fire way to get some extra speed as you will be capturing less air with your upper body, and if really extreme you could end up looking like a downhill skier. Apparently, you could save up to 10watts in aerodynamic drag if you lower your stem by 20mm, and accordingly reduce the angle of your torso too. But, it’s not all plain sailing as you need to have the strength to be able to ride and hold the position too. And for those of you wanting to slam, any changes should be in very small amounts and over a period of time. Don’t do it all at once as it could lead to injury. Narrower bars - So you’ve slammed your stem and got nice and low at the front end. We’re not done though, oh no! We’re now going to reduce your frontal area, that means getting narrow. Traditionally riders would opt for handlebars that were roughly the same size as their shoulders. However, there's been a bit of a buck to that trend. Over the past 5 years or so we’ve seen more and more professional cyclists going for narrower handlebars, maybe a couple of cms narrower or even to the extreme of Jan-Willem van Schip a dutch rider who is using, wait for it, 32cm wide bars at the hoods. Have you got any other suggestions to make your bike faster? Let us know in the comments. 👇 If you enjoyed this video, make sure to give it a thumbs up and share it with your friends. 👍 If you'd like to contribute captions and video info in your language, here's the link - http://gcntech.co/dq Watch more on GCN Tech... 5 Hacks For Free Speed 📹 gcntech.co/freespeed 4kg Hyper-Bike Build 📹 gcntech.co/4kghyperbike Music: Epidemic Sound Smiles - Jones Meadow Photos: © Velo Collection (TDW) / Getty Images & © Bettiniphoto / http://www.bettiniphoto.net/ Brought to you by the world’s biggest cycling channel, the Global Cycling Network (GCN), GCN Tech goes deeper into the bikes, kit and technology stories that matter.
