[Video Courtesy: Star Sports] Nabibakhsh’s late Super Raid helps Bengal Warriors complete dramatic comeback

Bengal Warriors made a dramatic late comeback in the final minute of their clash against Puneri Paltan to emerge as 42-39 winners at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Indoor Stadium in Kolkata on Sunday. Skipper Maninder Singh scored a Super 10 for the hosts, while Baldev Singh picked up a High 5.

Puneri Paltan started well and moved into an early 4-0 lead before K. Prapanjan picked up a bonus point to get the hosts on the scoreboard. A Super Tackle by Bengal Warriors in the subsequent raid and a Super Raid by Maninder Singh soon after then turned the game in favour of the hosts and put them ahead. With momentum now on their side, Bengal Warriors looked to drive home their advantage and enforced an All-Out in the 10th minute to extend their lead to 13-9.

Puneri Paltan fought back with some decisive tackling and efficient raiding from the likes of Pankaj Mohite and Emad Sedaghatnia. They went on to enforce an All-Out of their own to retake their lead as the teams approached halftime. However, two quick points for Bengal Warriors after the All-Out meant that they took a slender 21-20 advantage into the break.

The back-and-forth nature of the encounter continued in the second period with Puneri Paltan wrestling back the lead within a minute of the restart. Even though Puneri Paltan looked on top at that point, they couldn’t quite open up a big lead as the teams continued to trade blows during the first 10 minutes of the half.

Puneri Paltan took a three-point lead into the final quarter of the contest, but the match was still very much in the balance. However, they upped the ante with some exquisite raiding by Mohite and Manjeet as the clock started to wind down and managed to create some breathing space with just under six minutes left to play, after enforcing another All-Out on Bengal Warriors to extend their lead to 36-27.

The game looked done and dusted with a nine-point lead for Puneri Paltan to protect in the last five minutes as they looked to control the game from there. However, a Super Raid by Sukesh Hegde made it a five-point game and gave Bengal Warriors some hope with more than two minutes to play.

Mohammad Nabibakhsh then pulled off a dramatic Super Raid in the dying moments to inflict an All-Out and give his side a 40-39 lead. The home team then kept their composure and scored two more points in the final seconds to claim a three-point win.

Mohammad Nabibakhsh contributed all-around as he scored 3 raid points to go with his High 5. But the star of the show for Bengal Warriors was skipper Maninder Singh who scored 17 raid points and helped his team overcome Pawan Sehrawat’s 19-raid point effort. Bengal Warriors raced ahead in the opening minutes through their captain Maninder Singh, who put in four successful raids, including a two-pointer, without being tackled even once. However, he got Super Tackled by Ankit in the 7th minute to put Bengaluru Bulls in the lead at 7-8. Mohammad Nabibakhsh’s unsuccessful Do-or-Die raid followed by Rohit Kumar’s successful one then helped Bengaluru Bulls open up a four-point advantage. But Sukesh Hegde took out Mahender Singh in a Do-or-Die raid and followed it up with another successful two-point Do-or-Die raid to tie the scores at 12-all Maninder then managed a touch on Ajay before Bengal Warriors completed an All-Out three minutes before the half ended by tackling Sumit Singh, taking a one-point lead in the contest. They hung on to that lead going into halftime as the scores favoured them 16-15. The ‘Hi-Flyer’ started the second period in style for Bengaluru Bulls with a Super Raid, before Saurabh Nandal extended their lead by sending Hegde to the bench. Sehrawat then put in three back-to-back successful raids which eventually inflicted the All-Out on Bengal Warriors, opening up a seven-point lead for Bengaluru Bulls. Sehrawat brought up his Super 10 soon after Bengal Warriors reassembled and Bengaluru Bulls’ defence helped the team take control of the match by sending the dangerous Maninder to the bench. However, Bengal Warriors managed to tackle down Sehrawat in his next two raids and then brought the score difference down to four through Nabibakhsh and Maninder in attack. With a quarter of the contest still to be played, Nabibakhsh showcased his all-round ability with a successful tackle on Sehrawat which brought up his first vivo Pro Kabaddi High 5, while Maninder and Hegde’s raids added up to another All-Out on Bengaluru Bulls and put Bengal Warriors back on top at 32-31. Both teams chose to rely on bonus points after that stage as the scores remained tied. Maninder’s Super Raid with less than three minutes left on the clock looked like it could turn things Bengal Warriors’ way, but Sehrawat struck back with a two-point raid to send Nabibakhsh and Rinku to the bench and also level the scores at 38 apiece. Maninder and Sehrawat matched each other point-for-point from there but Bengal Warriors pulled off back-to-back tackles on Sehrawat and Rohit Kumar in Bengaluru Bulls’ final two raids to help their team claim victory. [Video Courtesy: Star Sports] A defensive shootout ends in tie between Jaipur Pink Panthers and Gujarat Fortunegiants Vishal scored 9 tackle points for the home side while Parvesh Bhainswal scored a High 5 as the match ended in a 28-28 tie. Jaipur Pink Panthers and Gujarat Fortunegiants played out a 28-28 tie in the former’s first home match at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Saturday. The hard-fought contest was headlined by both defences as 35 tackle points were scored on the night. After an even first quarter where the defenders of both sides showed their might and the scores were tied at 6 apiece, Jaipur Pink Panthers’ skipper Deepak Hooda helped his team race ahead with a two-point raid. Corner Sandeep Dhull then added to his tally by tackling Sonu before Hooda inflicted the first All Out of the match in his next raid to give Jaipur Pink Panthers a 12-6 lead. The Jaipur Pink Panthers defence stayed strong even after that and allowed only Sachin from Gujarat Fortunegiants any raid points while their skipper kept picking up points in attack. At the halftime whistle, the home team led 15-10 after having scored 8 tackle points in the half. Hooda was tackled only once in the entire half and had 4 touch points to his name. Jaipur Pink Panthers started the second period with back-to-back Super tackles, first on Sachin and then Rohit Gulia. The second of those also gave Vishal his High 5. However, once Sachin was revived, he immediately sent Vishal to the bench and that ushered in an All Out on Jaipur Pink Panthers to help the visitors make it a two-point game. The home team managed to hang on to their slender lead through the third quarter, but Gujarat Fortunegiants managed to equalise at 21-21 in the 10th minute through their skipper Sunil Kumar. Sachin then picked up a touch on Dhull and Parvesh Bhainswal sent substitute Ajinkya Pawar to the bench to reduce Jaipur Pink Panthers down to two men on the mat. However, Vishal and Nitin Rawal managed to hold down Gulia after an intense struggle to pull off a Super Tackle before another Super Tackle initiated by Rawal helped his team equalise at 26-26. Bhainswal seemed to have put his team ahead by sending Hooda to the bench in the next raid. But a third Super Tackle in quick succession saw the home team seize the lead yet again. With the last raid of the match remaining, Gujarat Fortunegiants played a high line of defence and tackled down Rawal as the clock ran out with the scores tied at 28-28. U Mumba ensured that Tamil Thalaivas finished their vivo Pro Kabaddi Season 7 home leg without a win by registering a 29-24 victory over the hosts at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai on Friday. Athul MS was the leading scorer in the match with seven raid points and he played a big role in U Mumba’s second-half fightback. Tamil Thalaivas began the match positively and raced into a 4-1 lead after four minutes with ‘Showman’ Rahul Chaudhari scoring three raid points, including a two-point raid. U Mumba gradually grew into the contest with some strong tackling and tied the score at 5-5 after the opening 10 minutes. However, Tamil Thalaivas soon reestablished their lead thanks to a couple of successive raids from ‘Iceman’ Ajay Thakur. He received support from Chaudhari, who picked up another two-point raid to extend the home side’s lead to 9-6. With halftime approaching, it looked like Tamil Thalaivas would inflict an All-Out. But a Super Tackle by Harendra Kumar on Chaudhari denied Tamil Thalaivas the All-Out and helped U Mumba reduce their deficit to 10-12 at the break. V. Ajith Kumar began the second half with a successful raid for the hosts only for Sandeep Narwal to respond with a two-point raid for U Mumba. Jang Kun Lee put a couple of more points on the board for Patna Pirates before the All Out was finally inflicted, giving Telugu Titans an 11-6 lead in the 6th minute of the match. Vishal Bhardwaj’s Thigh Hold then sent Pardeep the bench as Rajnish built on his early success to extend Telugu Titans’ lead to nine points. Reduced to three on the mat, Patna Pirates sent in Hadi Oshtorak to raid and he picked up a touch on Abozar Mohajermighani before tackling Rajnish down in his next raid to bring Patna Pirates back into the contest. Ajith and Chaudhari continued to add points to their team’s score, but U.P. Yoddha managed to match them point-for-point to ensure that Tamil Thalaivas stay within touching distance on the scoreboard. With the score at 14-9 in Tamil Thalaivas’ favour, U.P. [Video Courtesy: Star Sports] Bengal Warriors rise to second spot after edging U Mumba in a thriller Bengal Warriors made it back-to-back wins at home after registering a 29-26 win over U Mumba at the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Indoor Stadium in Kolkata on Wednesday. Sukesh Hegde scored eight raid points for the hosts and Mohammad Nabibakhsh picked up four tackle points. Arjun Deshwal got U Mumba off to a good start after a Super Raid in the very first raid of the match. However, after skipper Maninder Singh got Bengal Warriors on the scoreboard from a Do-or-die situation, it was pretty much level-pegging for most of the opening quarter with the hosts slightly in front with a 6-5 lead. Bengal Warriors then took control of the contest after a couple of successful Do-or-die raids from Nabibakhsh and Maninder. They eventually enforced an All-Out following a Baldev Singh tackle and opened up a 13-7 lead with less than five minutes left in the half. The hosts went on to extend their lead after the All-Out with a well-executed Super Raid by Sukesh but another Super Raid by U Mumba’s Deshwal ensured that Bengal Warriors could only take a 16-13 lead into the break. The second half began with raiders from both sides finding success. Bengal Warriors though took control as the half progressed with their defenders also making their presence felt. The good work on both ends of the mat by the hosts meant that they took a six-point lead into the final quarter of contest. U Mumba though weren’t ready to throw in the towel yet and continued to fight as they looked to claw their way back into the encounter late on. The final five minutes saw U Mumba throw everything at Bengal Warriors’ defence without much reward initially. However, a few swift raids by Deshwal – who had brought up his Super 10 by this stage – and decisive tackling from U Mumba’s defence made it a one-point game with seconds left on the clock. In the end though it was a pivotal Super Tackle by Rinku Narwal on Deshwal in the penultimate raid of the game that proved to be the final nail in the coffin for U Mumba and gave the home side a three-point win.
