T10 League 2018 Final, Pakhtoons vs Northern Warriors: Front runner for championship Pakhtoon fell short of 22 runs as the target of 141 runs set for the championship by newcomers Northern Warriors deemed too high for the Pakhtoon team.
As a result, Northern Warriors clinched the title in the final match of the 2nd season of the T10 League at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Sunday, December 2, 2018. The T10 League has a new champion, Northern Warriors.
Winning the toss, Pakhtoon captain Shahid Afridi asked Northern Warriors to bat, hoping to restrict the newcomers to a comfortably low score. However, Northern Warriors captain Daren Sammy had other plans.
Newcomers Northern Warriors put up a fighting score of 140 for three in their allotted ten overs, led by Rovman Powell’s 61 off 25 balls that included eight fours and four sixes and Andre Russell’s 38 off 12 balls, powered by three fours and four sixes. League’s top scorer Nicholas Pooran added 18 runs in 10 balls to his 206 runs of the tournament to take it to 324 runs total.
Liam Dawson was the most expensive bowler, giving away 27 runs in one over that helped the Northern Warriors to put up the second highest total of the T10 League so far.
While chasing the highest T10 League total, the Pakhtoon team had a modest start. They were chasing the target well till the fifth over. However, it was Hardus Viljoen, who took two wickets in quick succession to restrict the run chase as wickets continue to fall and the Pakhtoon team could only manage 118 for 7 wickets in the end. Chris Green took two for 11 to further damage the Pakhtoon run chase.
