Description:

In this talk, Junaid Kapadia, DevOps manager and staff software engineer for Aetion Systems, speaks about the company’s journey from a Chef, Jenkins, and EC2-based architecture to a fault-tolerant, highly available, continuously provisioned, and deployed architecture via AWS CodePipeline, AWS CodeBuild, AWS CloudFormation, AWS Systems Manager Parameter Store, and Amazon Elastic Container Service (Amazon ECS). Kapadia also discusses the history of Aetion’s original architecture, explains how it transitioned its movement to the new architecture, and shares specific caveats of the purpose of each service and why it was chosen. He also talks about future developments of the overall architecture. Complete Title: AWS re:Invent 2018: Aetion’s Migration Journey to AWS CodePipeline, AWS CloudFormation, & Amazon ECS (STP04)

DrupalCon Seattle 2019 Drupal BlueGreen Deployments With AWS ECS

Drupal deployments are hard. You have to make sure your code is deployed, composer dependencies are pulled, schema updates are performed and caches cleared, all with keeping the website up and responsive for the users, add the fact that you host on multiple servers and you have active users online updating some content 24/7 and it gets even more interesting. What if anything goes wrong and you want to rollback, do you have to deploy again and have your users wait? The answer is No. Blue/Green deployments is the solution to this problem, but how do we do that with Drupal? I’m going to cover blue/green deployments in Drupal when managing your own infrastructure with Docker on AWS ECS and discuss different scenarios and challenges with those. Agenda: Drupal deployment problem and Blue/Green deployment overview in Drupal deployments perspective Infrastructure setup overview CI/CD Pipeline overview Managing state. Stateful vs Stateless applications deployment challenges and solutions Cluster and service auto-scaling as demand grows 6. Secrets management Takeaway After this session you should be able to answer the following questions: What is Blue/Green deployment and why do I need it? How to do Blue/Green deployments with Drupal hosted on AWS ECS How to prepare your Docker drupal stack for blue/green How to architect your Drupal website to have minimum impact on user data loss during deployments and/or rollbacks. How to use tools like Jenkins Pipelines to implement Blue/Green CI/CD pipeline Slides: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/12rcgBHTSLAvq0qLKxz4HUtuvNgDLh9Jpn_f8lmU19W8

The service mesh is becoming the most critical component of the cloud-native stack, with users ranging from small startups to Internet giants and traditional enterprises. While still early in terms of adoption, this new infrastructure layer has massive implications for the way companies build and operate distributed systems. In this session, SignalFx provides an overview of distributed systems and service instrumentation, then examines how a service mesh approach addresses inter-service communication, testing, and other fundamental challenges of adopting microservices architecture. Learn about the considerations for monitoring and observability, as well as the trade-offs, of implementing service mesh. This session is brought to you by AWS partner, SignalFx.

Create CloudFormation Stack EC2 RDS Deploy Docker App Episode 7

by Chandra Shet...

Learn how to create an application stack using AWS CloudFormation. Stack will consist of EC2 instance and RDS for MySQL. Stack is defined using YAML template that contains 4 resources to be created on AWS, 1. EC2 Instance to run the application on 2. EC2 Security Group that defines the possible inbound ports on the EC2 instance 3. RDS Instance for MySQL database 4. RDS Security Group that defines the possible sources the db can be reached from https://devteds.com/episodes/7-create-aws-cloudformation-stack-for-ec2-rds-and-deploy-docker-app Following are the steps to walk through, 1. Create a KeyPair on AWS account to be used for SSH access to EC2 2. Generate API keys and configure the AWS CLI on local machine 3. Create a simple stack using CloudFormation and this stack will consists of an EC2 instance and necessary security group for EC2 instance 4. Update the stack to install and configure docker on the EC2 instance 5. Update the stack to add RDS instance and necessary security group to the stack 6. Create Docker compose file to define the application to be deployed on EC2 instance with it’s database on RDS instance 7.
